Peter Breugel’s famous picture The Mill and the Cross became an inspiration for Lech Majewski’s new film. The director has admitted that this is his greatest film challenge. Both Hollywood stars (Charlotte Rampling, Rutger Hauer, Michael York) and hundreds of extras were involved in the shooting. Over 1500 film set elements and costumes were prepared.
