In the era of China’s big famine, a maiden called Flower gets sick due to long-term malnutrition. In order to have her recovered, her father steals some millet to make a bowl of rice. Restored to health, Flower tells how she had the rice. An official heard about it and Flower’s father is immediately arrested. Feeling guilty and heart-broken, she believes that her words have killed her father.
