Marguerite Thyem is a 52-year-old Kanak woman and mother of five children. She is from the "Old Touho" tribe in the North of New Caledonia. She is a strong and energetic woman. In 2008, she decided to take on the responsibility of "clan chief", a place that has always been occupied by men in traditional Kanak society.
