Biography

Italian director. He made his debut as an actor in small roles in 1960 in the film Rocco and His Brothers by Luchino Visconti, and in Risate di gioia by Mario Monicelli; in this film he met Anna Magnani who advised him to dedicate himself to directing. In the sixties he worked as a production assistant with Riccardo Freda, Roberto Rossellini, Alessandro Blasetti, Joseph Losey and was assistant director to John Huston, Franco Zeffirelli, Alberto Lattuada, as well as Nanni Loy and Losey. In the seventies he directed some commercials and made his debut as a theatre director at the Teatro Gerolamo in Milan. During the eighties he also worked for state television, producing some special reports for Mixer on Rai 2. In 1986 he made his debut as a director by directing Sposerò Simon Le Bon, which was followed in 1989 by a second film, Partire in quarta, for which he also wrote the screenplay, and was made in France. In 1987 he directed the film Portami la luna, Sabrina Ferilli's debut as a television actress, and wrote the screenplay and directed Il miracolo della fede.
