Biography

Charles is an award-winning director focused on the preservation of identity. In feature documentaries, Charles directed Buddy Guy: The Blues Chase The Blues Away, which premiered at the 2021 Tribeca Film Festival and won Best Feature Documentary at the 2022 Pan-African Film Festival, and Romeo Santos: King of Bachata, which was nominated for a Latin Grammy and currently airs on HBO Max. For CNN, Charles directed “Lessons From The Water: Diving With A Purpose” (“DWP”), featuring a group of black archaeologists with the goal to restore the nearly 500 voyages shipwrecked during the slave trade to historial record. In 2021, “DWP” and Charles were featured in MIPAD (Most Influential People of African Descent). Charles’ most recent work includes the upcoming docuseries “Magic City: An American Fantasy” which premiered at the 2024 SxSW Film Festival and the basketball mockumentary “Memes & Nightmares”, which premiered at the 2024 Tribeca Film Festival.
