Biography

Mads K. Baekkevold is an interdisciplinary Norwegian filmmaker with a body of work spanning horror, documentaries, animation, commercials, and more. His career began in Singapore, where he spent nearly a decade working in the Southeast Asian film industry. After Singapore he relocated to Amsterdam, where he worked as Senior Creative and Director at the creative agency Monks. He's currently based in the Pacific Northwest, working as a freelance director, editor, and writer, represented by Vancouver's Wallop Film. In addition to his work as a Cannes Lions-awarded commercial director, Mads has undertaken an eclectic mix of international projects, such as Still Space (a documentary on the modern art scene in Macau), his award-winning short film Chamber of Ox (an anthology segment exploring the Buddhist concept of hell), a series of four short pan-Asian horror films for Universal Studios - among others. His debut feature The Chef & The Daruma premiered at the Vancouver International Film Festival (VIFF) in 2024, where it won the Insights Audience Award. The film is currently screening at festivals around the world.
