Mark Jones grew up in Memphis, Tennessee. He attended Presbyterian College in Clinton, SC. His first job out of college was washing dishes in Meadows of Dan, Virginia. Returning to Memphis, he started in working at TV stations and then wrote his first film, "Eli Parker Is Getting Married?" and it was made into a movie in late 2000.
Mark and his partner lived in New York for a couple of years and returned to Memphis in 2005. In November/December he made the film "Fraternity Massacre at Hell Island."
Mark has been active in the Outflix Film Festival which celebrated its 21st year in 2018. He served as director of the festival 3 times, 1998, 2008 and 2017. He now servers on the board of the Indie Memphis Film Festival which holds its festival in November every year.
From 2016-2017, Mark wrote and directed six short films.
He and his partner have been together for over 16 years and live in Memphis.
