Biography

Gavin Bocquet is a British production designer. He studied product design at Newcastle Polytechnic before earning a Master of Design from the Royal College of Art in 1979. Bocquet began his film career as an art department draftsman on The Elephant Man (1980) and Return of the Jedi (1983). Four years later, he advanced to assistant art director on Return to Oz (1985) and Young Sherlock Holmes (1985). By the time he worked on Empire of the Sun (1987), he had become a full-fledged art director. His other art direction credits include Dangerous Liaisons (1988), Erik the Viking (1989), and Cry Freedom (1987), where he had the opportunity to collaborate with Stuart Craig, whom—along with Norman Reynolds—he considers a mentor. Transitioning to production design, Bocquet worked on the British television series Yellowthread Street and the American series The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles, earning one Emmy Award and two nominations. His feature film credits as a production designer include Kafka (1991) and Radioland Murders (1994).
