Akademi Fantasia, Season 8 is the eighth season of Akademi Fantasia to be aired in Astro Ria which premiered on March 13, 2010. The professional trainers for this season were announced in a press conference for media which took place in Hilton Hotel, Kuala Lumpur on February 8, 2010. In the ceremony, Norman Abdul Halim was revealed to be the Principal for this season, while Sarimah Ibrahim and Jimmy Shanley were selected as the new hosts replacing AC Mizal. The eight season saw a new change to the format of the show. Instead of eliminating a student at the end of each concert, the elimination process was conducted in a new 30-minute segment called Debaran Akademi Fantasia, which was conducted by Sarimah Ibrahim. The final concert was broadcast live in high definition technology, an Akademi Fantasia first, which was accessible for Astro B.yond subscribers in Channel 124 through Astro. The winner was 21-year-old Ahmad Shahir bin Zawawi from Kampar, Perak. He made history for being the first student to win the title after being re-entered into the competition through AFMASUK following his elimination in Week 7. As many as 3.75 million votes were cast the entire season.

Akademi Fantasia, Season 7 is the seventh season of Akademi Fantasia which premiered in Astro Ria on March 9, 2009. The promotional catch phrase of this season is "Bring Out Your Self-Transformation". On February 10, 2009 Astro management released the list of professional trainers who would take charge of this season's contestants. Datin Seri Tiara Jacquelina was revealed to be the Principal for this season, marking the first time ever a woman is given the title of Principal in Akademi Fantasia history. The winner of the season was 19 year-old Mohd Hafiz Mohd Suip, from Kuching, Sarawak. As much as 3.9 million votes were cast throughout this season. This season remains to be the most productive finalists in music industry in Malaysia.

Season 6

Akademi Fantasia, Season 6 is the sixth season of Akademi Fantasia to be aired in Astro Ria. The promotional catchphrase of this season is "Bring Out The Superstar Talent In You". A few major changes were made this season. The show is eligible for Malaysian citizens aged from 18–45 years old, unlike the previous five seasons which were eligible for those who aged from 18–27 years old. The number of contestants was also decreased to 14, from 16 since Season 5. Aznil Nawawi who has been hosting the show since Season 1, decided to leave the show due to scheduling conflicts and is currently being replaced by A.C Mizal. Finally, the judging panel was also altered with Fauziah Latiff being replaced by Ning Baizura. The winner was 18-year-old Stracie Angie Anam, from Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, who became the youngest contestant ever to win the competition. She won prizes worth RM733,734 which comprised a four-room bungalow at A'Famosa Villa D'Lagos, Melaka, a Peugeot 307XS car, cash worth RM 25,000, holiday package of 7 days and 5 nights at South Africa, holiday package to Italy, Sony PlayStation Portable and a trophy. This season drew an overall 3.8 million votes which displayed a significant decrease from the previous season.

Season 5

Akademi Fantasia, Season 5 is the fifth season of Akademi Fantasia to air in Astro Ria. For this season, Akademi Fantasia was held from March to May, unlike the previous four seasons which were held between May to August because the producer did not want the show to clash with Malaysia's 50th Anniversary of Independence Day. The winner was 19-year old Norsyarmilla Jirin, from Pulau Pinang, who became the first female champion of the show. Throughout this season, as much as 6.6 million votes were cast, with 1.9 million votes received in the finale.

Season 4

Akademi Fantasia, Season 4 is the fourth season of Akademi Fantasia to be aired in Astro Ria which premiered on June 3, 2006. As much as 20 short-listed contestants were revealed in Tirai Akademi Fantasia, which was aired on May 20, 2006. However, all contestants were required to perform in the Prelude Concert in order to determine the final 12 contestants who would move on to the main competition in which 10 contestants would be chosen by the jury and the remaining two contestants by the audience's votes. The weekly concerts were held in MBPJ Civic Hall while the final concert was held in Stadium Putra Bukit Jalil. This season also witnessed an elimination of a student in the first concert, an Akademi Fantasia first. The winner was 22 year-old Mohammad Faizal Ramly from Marang, Terengganu. The entire season attracted as much as 7.4 million votes.

Season 3

Akademi Fantasia, Season 3 which premiered on June 4, 2005 is the third season of Akademi Fantasia to be aired in Astro Ria. As much as 20 contestants were selected before the final 12 contestants were chosen in the prelude concert. However, in this season's first concert, those eight contestants who were eliminated in the prelude concert were given a chance to compete in the first concert in order to be recruited into the competition againas the thirteenth and the fourteenth contestants. This season also continued the format of not eliminating any contestant in the first concert. The winner was 23 year old Asmawi Ani, from Kulai, Johor. As much as 10.7 million votes were cast throughout this entire season.

Season 2

Akademi Fantasia, Season 2 is the second season of Akademi Fantasia to be aired in Astro Ria. It premiered on June 7, 2004. Unlike previous season which was solely opened for people from Peninsular Malaysia, this season was eligible for contestants from East Malaysia. The final 12 contestants were revealed in Tirai Akademi Fantasia which was aired at the end of May and early June. A new format this season was introduced which enabled a student who was eliminated to be re-entered into the competition through a voting line called AFMASUK. Using this voting line, audience would vote any students who were eliminated throughout the season and the one student who received the highest votes would be re-entered into the competition. This new format is subsequently used in seasons 4, 7 and 8. The winner was 23 year old Ahmad Zahid Baharuddin from Kuala Lumpur. This entire season holds the highest reception of votes in the history of Akademi Fantasia with 15 million votes being cast.

Akademi Fantasia, Season 1 premiered on June 9, 2003 and was the first season of Akademi Fantasia to be aired in Astro Ria. Concert held at the "Panggung Percubaan UPM" and the final concert held at Dewan Wawasan, Cheras. The winner was 23-year old Vincent Chong Ying-Cern from Kuala Lumpur. This season managed to cast as much as 4.5 million votes from the audience.
