The story follows Yaoying, the female protagonist, who travels back to ancient times and becomes a cannon - fodder supporting female character in a book. To change her fate, she actively approaches Li Xuanzhen, the male protagonist, but unexpectedly gets involved with Tanmoluojia, the Buddhist son of the Western Regions' royal court. Tanmoluojia, with a heart for the world and compassion, is gradually moved by Yaoying's tenacity and kindness. The two support each other in the troubled times, face power struggles and wars together, and finally end up together.
