After Charlie's attempted escape, Joel and Tess decide they need to keep a closer eye on him.

Just as Joel has reconnected with his friends he discovers that Charlie has been diagnosed with cancer - Hodgkin's Lymphoma. And he's horrified to learn that he is refusing chemotherapy.
