This time, we take a look at the frustrating history of trans representations in the media and the effect they’ve had on popular misconceptions of trans identity — as well as the way those misconceptions have lead to some truly appalling attacks on the civil rights of trans people.

More than that, they cultivate a political space in which our president can ride Islamophobic sentiment straight into the Oval Office, and then pursue policies rooted in the very Islamophobia that Hollywood has done so much to cultivate.
